hi ray
despite me living in the best part of the country for zander ive never caught 1 mind you ive only fished for them once with zippy.
from what ive been told 1 of the best baits to use is a roach with head cut off popped up off the deck.
they are normally very finicky bites so you need the least resistance possible on your rig & reel. I know in the british pike final every year the amount of people that complain about them for just picking the bait up taking it a few feet & dropping it as soon as you lift the rod.the best times are oct to april from what ive been told.
I cant help you with locations round your area but nearly every river & drain round here apart from north level & holland drains hold zander.

tight lines.
