what do you folks use for your floater rigs etc.

i have 10lb korda line on a swivel with a korda kruiser float.

thats about 4ft long with a size 12 hook with approx 2.3in hair and quick stop.

using this tonight and the bait was taken loads but wasn't hookin even on a couple of strikes it seemed to just pull out etc. once i had hooked it was in solid. bait was an 11m fishmeal floater and chum mixer.

This never even properly took it. It just got really close and spooked.

I normally use 8lb Gamma Copolymer with a size 10 tied on the end with a palomar knot.I then just tie a bait band to the hookshank.

I'm going to get a fox bolt bubble controller though and I'm going to rig it up like this. I will tie on the controller clip first. Then add a Gardner Q Ring, to change hooklinks fast. I'll have several options for hooklinks all tied up and put in a Gardner Rig Bin. If one thing doesn't work eg fish spookm off I can change to differnt hook size and change arrangement and bait until I get hooked fish. The hooks are all Gamataksu Specialist Wide Gapes and the line is Foz Zig and Floater Hooklink.

Size 12 - 6.4mm bait band (via hookshank)
Size 12 - 4.8mm bait band (via hookshank)
Size 12 - Hair rig with a Dynamite Baits 15mm Halibut pop up chopped down to look like a mixer
Size 12 - Hair rigged 4.8mm bait band
Size 10 - 6.4mm bait band (via hookshank)
Size 10 - 4.8mm bait band (via hookshank)
Size 10 - Hair rig with a Dynamite Bait 15mm Halibut pop up chopped down to look like a mixer
Size 10 - Hair rigged 4.8mm bait band

Size 12 hook. Stale bits of cubed bread hair rigged!!! Sorted. Keep it simple is the key and get them feeding first. No point in spooking them too soon.

rigs then pretty similar to mine and nice and simple, just size 12 and bait. how long do you do ya hair rig with ya bait on, do you have it touching hook or inch away etc etc. from looking at the rig again when i got home i think the main problem is the length of hair as they come up and have a feel and take it down but just get bait in the mouth then spit it out but the hooks still on the outside. this happened a couple of times with it going under but on striking nothing there i would say thou the floater was only about 1cm at most this was after they had given it a couple of sucks as it had softened up etc

tried it last night with a much smaller rig so the hook bend was just on the bait. had 2 bites one slipped the hook thou and the other landed without a problem.
