A typical winters day yesterday, finally the river was not raging, brown and a boiling mess but a nice even smooth glide with a tinge of colour.

The sun, oily, but low in the sky gave the trees around a amber glow and the banks carpeted in their rotting leaves it was a perfect back drop to run a stick float though, not a breath of wind.

Big floods can change rivers and locations fish hold so I knew I could be in for a hard day af trotting, but hey that's winter chub fishing. An hour and half I fed the swim with hemp and maggot and run the float through before the 10 number 4 dome top bolted under and the korum glide arched round into the first chub.

Like it can be in winter two more followed in the next two casts but it wasnt until the sun departed and the dark shadows cloaked the water that two more played ball.

An enjoyable day bankside
