I was thinking back to years gone by when we ran a 'Fish Race' on the site, people could submit different fish species they'd caught throughout the year and there was a prize for the one that caught the most. Then I got to thinking which fish haven't I caught before...

From the list below, tell us which species you have still to catch: (only UK caught fish count)

Barbel
Bitterling
Bleak
Bream (Common Bronze)
Burbot
Silver Bream
Carp (Common)
Carp (Mirror)
Carp (Leather)
Carp (Crucian)
Catfish
Chub
Dace
Eel
Grass Carp
Grayling
Gudgeon
Ide
Lamphrey
Minnow
Perch
Pike
Pumpkinseed
Roach
Rudd
Ruffe
Stickleback
Stone loach
Trout (Brown)
Trout (Rainbow)
Tench (Golden or Green)
Salmon
Sturgeon
Zander

All apart from the grass carp, there all geographical ie they don't live in the waters I fish apart from the odd salmon that ventures up the stour but they seldom get this high up the river.

@Silverfisher ......One less now!....Ide and Orfe, the same thing!:p;):geek:
True so to are the variations of carp then there’s the starry and common smoothound debate, probably should have said different types of fish rather than different species 🤔

Sure I hooked and lost a Zander on the weir I fish. Had it on worm and saw it's teeth, mutant looking thing, can't think of another fish it could have been, before it bit me off. Did not fight very hard. Would like to catch one but don't target them, same as Pike where I've only had fluke ones.

Out of the other species Trout and Salmon I'm not too fussed about but it was nice to catch my first surprise Brownie on maggot earlier this year. Grayling I don't think there are many round here. Would like a Cat or a Sturgeon but again don't target them.

I have probably caught as many Gudgeon as any other species being a canal angler back in the day which is where I've had Ruffe and Sticklebacks.
