Coppice farm fishery was a good day

Also had the weirdest thing happen since I’ve been fishing

About September time last year got done bad by a carp in the reeds then he went round the legs of a bridge only way to free the fish and get my top kit back was split the top kit and cut the elastic as far up as I could,
Anyway yesterday on the same lake fishing a banjo feeder cast over to a little bay on the far bank tip went flying round mental carp on the end, got him in with my elastic and rig still attached to him 6 months later

I was genuinely shocked that I would be the first to catch him and that the rig was still intact and attached to the fish I even took it home to show the Mrs :)

I dare not say. I have already been lambasted elsewhere for writing a negative report that I am told could threaten the future of the fishery. Just because it fished very poorly and there were dead and dying fish apparently does not matter.

I fished one of my club ponds, Ashpole Spinney, Cosby, for the first time this year on Friday evening. It was a lovely warm and calm evening and surprisingly there was no one else fishing there. It has been restocked over the winter and there were shoals of the new stock bream and ide cruising around plus a few good carp. Some ide were even spawning in the gravel at the end of the boat ramp. Early attempts at mugging the cruising fish in a wander all around the pond resulted in a 8.5lb carp and a 8oz ide, but the bait was mostly being ignored. Finally settling at one swim and float fishing luncheonmeat on the bottom resulted in my first tench of the year, ending up with five to 3.5lb, two more carp with another 8.5lb fish, and three rudd to 8oz.

Last Thursday afternoon/evening I fished another local water, the gravel pit at Mill Farm, Gilmorton, again for the first time this year. There were big carp cruising close in throughout but they were spooking from shallow or zig rigged baits. A bottom bait was also being ignored, but a surface bait finally resulted in a nice 18.5lb mirror two hours into the session and then another five carp with two low doubles.

Brafferton Lakes on Ghost. on club match. 22 of us turned out and it started off well. Then the weather changed, everything went black and it started lashing down. 38lb from peg 13 on open water and nowhere near. Peg 19 won in the corner with 74lb. You needed a feature to fish to. Got another match there next Sunday with another club so hopefully will draw better.

I fish two local stillwaters and caught a lot of Roach and Rudd.
On the Friday the Giebel (Prussian carp) were spawning at my feet, you could reach out and touch them (not that I did).
They were at it for the whole day.

I've never seen fishing spawning live.

It's not quite in full summer bloom yet (the rushes and lilies are just starting to show), but another few weeks and it will look beautiful!

Most of my best sessions on Miltons have been mid April to mid June. I rarely fish it after end of June, unless it's just a morning session as it tends to die around 12... then picks up again late afternoon.

It's not so bad on the way to the lake, but it's a bugger at the end of the day! I only take minimal gear nowadays, and the last super steep bit up to the shop is closed now - you have to use the lower main gate.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For anyone who fishes Buryhills... main shop is now closed and you get your ticket from a portakabin in the car park. They still sell bait and small tackle items. Cafe is also closed, but you can order food/drink and get it delivered to your peg.

Venue is moving to membership only next year, with a reduced number of pegs, and you'll be able to book specific pegs ahead of fishing on line.

I fished a silver's match on Oakside just outside Newquay, I normally only fish for silver's at Porth in the White Acres festival's so it made an enjoyable change being carp free.
For those that have never been to Oakside it's a mile or so from White Acres, some of the pegs are quite overgrown but further round from the carpark there are some more open pegs, as you look up the lake from the carpark the right hand bank is fairly shallow closer in but the left hand from about peg 6 is a different matter in some pegs you can find 6 to 8ft just off your rod top.
I drew peg 6 which was a bit confined to say the least with not much more than 6ft inbetween two bushes either side, I had 10ft+ at 12m on the pole line but with the wind in my face it proved not worth the effort, I ended up fishing worm & caster through a small cage feeder with the same on the hook catching skimmers from 6oz to 1½lb.
On the short pole line just off the bushes I caught a bonus 4lb tench + some miniature bars of soap on paste and managed to lose two decent bream in the aforementioned bushes, I ended up with 27lb for third not a massive weight but I still enjoyed the match which was won with 44lb of roach rudd skimmers & hybrids, 33lb of similar fish was second.
Anyone coming down this way who fancies a day out on an old fashioned catch what's in from of you style lake should give Oakside a go but be warned at weekends the bivvy boys tend to take over.

I've fished Oakside several times Tony and it's a cracking lake, definitely not commercialised

Oakside Fishery and Fish Farm Cornwall
It could do with a haircut but Brian the owner likes it the way it is, I ended up fishing an 8ft match picker rod as it was too tight to fish anything longer, the owner said I could borrow an optonic and fish the rod straight out ?

I fished Barby Banks for a quick 3 hour evening session. Ended up with 18 carp and a skimmer. Biggest went just under 8lb. It's an ugly fishery but for 4 quid and a ten minute drive it's great for an after work session....
