What size feeder rod for multiple different venues

Looking at purchasing a feeder rod but unsure what length tongo for
Would be used on multiple different venues rivers comercials looking for a good all round length really
What are peoples thoughts on length to go for?

I always think of an 11ft feeder rod being like the equivalent of a 13ft float rod in terms of being the “standard” length. That’ll chuck plenty far enough for most rivers and typical sized lakes without being too long to cast short distances. 90% of my feeder fishing is with a trio of 11ft rods although admittedly 95% of my feeder fishing is on rivers. Casting weight comes into it as well that’s when you end up with multiple rods even of the same length but something that’ll cast up to a couple ounces is probably the most versatile.

Both mine (TFG & Ron Thomson) are 12’ and work just as well on river or stillwater.

I’ve got 3 feeder rods that I use - 8’7” on commies or parrot cages, an 11’ & a 12’. If I was starting again & rivers were an option I’d probably go for a multi length job. There’s a very nice MAP Carptek multi length 11, 12 & 13ft job on EBay that would cover all bases as far as I would be concerned. I’d keep the 8’7” as it’s a bit more specialised at that length

11ft for small stillwaters and narrow rivers, put the 2ft extension in for bigger waters and moderate distance chucks.

I use the nzon Z 10/11 method rod as it has interchangeable tips and get use 10 or 11ft (1ft section inserted at the joint/feral) depending where I am, I mostly use the 10 on snake like lakes but do enjoy a bit of bream fishing chucking a light feeder 40m or so. It basically covers most of my lead fishing.

A lot would depend on the rivers you intend to fish, a fast flowing wide river will be easier to fish with a longer rod.

As a general rule a medium feeder rod of 11-12ft will cover most bases, however that is a general rule for small/meduim sized still waters and medium sized rivers with a moderate flow once you get outside of these constraints things change. As has been said above a multi length rod may be the answer but be careful as these are often good at only one length and the other length the action is compromised especially at the lower end of the market. If you go multi length try to find a rod with different length handle sections to change the length rather than adding an extension piece as these tend to have less effect on the rod action. You don't give a budget as it might be better if the budget stretches to it to buy a 10ft and 12ft rod as this would cover more bases and also allow you to have 2 rods set up at the same time.

Like a few others, I would start with 11ft. I always suggest Drennan as you have a couple of good price brackets ie Red Range or Vertex. The main reason for my recommendation is the availability of spare tips and the wide range of options.
For example an 11ft Red Range carp feeder will come with 2 slow taper glass tips, probably 1oz and 2oz. These will cover most situations but you could get carbon tips if the river is flowing a bit or a fast taper glass tips to enhance bites when it’s tough.

Well I've kept the price low and gone for a shakespeare omni 3 peice 11ft feedee rod.
Looking at a few rods i felt that a 12 was a tad too big and decided to go for an 11ft
With the omni splitting into 3 peices sold it to me as i can take away easily when in caravan. It may not be the greatest of rods but only for pleasure.
Going to try it out this weekend and see how it goes fingers crossed it is ok
