Probably the all time favourite food of choice for the humble Gobio would be the freshwater shrimp, but they will root around and seek out any food source amongst the detritus on the bottom of their habitat. Bloodworm, water fleas , even small molluscs will form part of their diet.

Just about anything they can get in their gobs in my experience[:D]

If you wanna catch a few see if you can find an old packet of Picardie groundbait in the dusty corner of a tackle shop somewhere - no finer gudgeon groundbait exists[;)]

It would be easier to ask "what don't river gudgeon eat?"
If they can get it into their mouths and it is edible they will usually eat it.

Caught one on double hair rigged meat on the Severn the other week... 6mm cubes.

Also had a minnow on corn on a size 16 hook there too...

I normally either use chopped worm or maggots. But they will eat pretty much anything
