Have any of you seen the report on Teletext (BBC.)WELS CATFISH.
Problems have occurred with the wildfowl on " The Martin Mere " reserve at Burscough, near Ormskirk.
The information states that a TIDDLER! at SEVEN FEET LONG!!!!! and about 24 STONE? Is attacking the birds on the Mere.Swans Etc..
On this diet it could grow to an enormous weight.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMEND FOR BAIT???

Cats that big take down wildebeast don't they?

I'd recommend 30lb class tackle a mackeral flapper and a butt pad!!!

Did the report say anything about cathing it? I'd be willing to give it a go.
I'd happily exchange my usual floating crust for a duck, (as has nearly happened lots of times,) I think ducks are the devils spawn, sent to torment and cause nervous breakdowns. I hate them with a vengence. But thats another matter.

P.S. I would never do anything to harm the dear little feathered creatures, and usually end up feeding them at the end of the session.

Hello

24 stone would make it 300lbs, which at seven feet would be a very
fat catfish.

seven feet long should put the cat at just over 100lbs or thereabouts

as for bait try a dead chicken, they use them in spain, but after a
while in the sun they really stink.

good luck

Hello

just saw a report of this on sky news, apparently its 8 feet
long, 20 stone plus, 100 years old, can walk over land and
catfish have been known to attack and kill people, all according
to an "expert" zoologist.

you can always trust sky not to exaggerate, god bless em

another person on the report reckoned that the catfish in england PROBABLY came from europe, was it the name "european or wels catfish"
that gave it away?

Eat the ducks.

Revenge is a bitch.

Adam

be fair mate this is a journalism.

If the wels actual name had been given then it might have confused the situation a bit more "Siluris glanis" or the European, Wels, Danubian catfish is the largest of freshwater cats & love snaggy swims like over hanging trees (Dave!!
) or similar types of areas.

The favourite bait for moggies has got to be a norven softie preferably yorkastrian this mix is half yorks & half lancs which as everyone knows blend perfectly

(I can't believe how many catfish threads there are this weekend, there was one on AN.)

Apparently they grow bigger towards midnight taking on huge proportions by 2am shrinking back to about 5lb by morning.

Claimed captures of fish, even if it did fight for 45 minutes before climbing up a tree, do not count.

The way to beat these big cats is sticks of dynamite (waterproof of course) and stand well back when you throw it!

Simple solution - just import a large sturgeon from Russia and the catfish will become a meal and a memory.

Or maybe just borrow the Loch Ness Monster for a bit.
