Upgrade from Abu Diplomat 602m to 706 ??

Hi Folks.

I'm slowly getting back into some river fishing. I've dug out my old Abu 602m Diplomat for my last trip & though worked fine, feels a little agricultural. This is probably because i've been used to my carp reels for last decade.

My question is, will i gain a far superior closed face reel by upgrading to the Abu 706.

The new reel is more like the origonal 506 than any of the reels made since,

It's got 4 match spools which will cover most line situations and in My opinion is "a bit special"

I bought a 706 a couple of months ago and Im well pleased, using it for both trotting and light float fishing on still waters. It got four spools, and if you dont like the synchro drag unlike the 503, the 505 and the 506 you can turn the ant-reverse off and play fish on the backwind. Also they have reverted to the single pin pick up, so you dont have the problem that some of the 704s had with the line release or pick up sometimes being a bit sluggish.

That's a good price, the best I managed to find was 63.90 carriage paid, that one comes out under that with delivery.

I can vouch for the 706, it's a cracking reel, sturdy, and smooth as silk.
