unhooking mats

can anybody please recommend a cheap unhooking mat for me -i don't want to spend a bomb- i don't need a massive one i need one because on the part of the river i fish, the bank is very dusty and uneaven.

i wondered if those mats that you kneel on for gardening be used for the time being or can they damage the fish???

(its for chub of around 2/3lb)

Hi RuddyRoach, aren't you lucky, catching 2-3lb chub.

I think you might find for a cheap unhooking mat try a sheet of neo-prene that you can get from camping stores, normally used as a "mattress" under a sleeping bag, you won't need all of it, and you may have to peg it down, to stop it blowing away or curling up.

if you lived a little nearer, I would give you one as I have quite a few lying around. From memory they dont cost very much at all.

I have a Sahkespeare Specimen unhooking mat, that only cost me 13.99. So they are quit cheap.

13.99, icarpd...., you were done mate!! I paid about 8 for a Shakespeare one that big enough for a family of four!! Can't find the catalogue now, but it was from Mullarkey's Direct. I actually ordered a smaller one at the time, but it was out of stock so they sent the big one instead.
