I am currently putting together a travel insurance package that will be sold via Angling websites. In this respect, I obviously want to include cover within the policy that is specific to anglers.

Can you let me know, what covers you would ideally like in either an annual or trip travel insurance policy.

This is a serious request, so I would be grateful for sensible responses.

thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,
On a flight from Belfast to Leeds/Bradford, British Airways managed to break a Pole my son was bringing.
Obviously kit in transport is important to cover.

Cheers

What a fantastic idea .

Obviously transit damage would have to be included along with theft etc.

Another thing to think about is the replacement cover,ie if an article is deemed "un-economical to repair" would the cover be "same as (if available)" or "new for old"??

You will also have to think about such things as european travel cover & cover outside the european states (ie America or Australia etc).

Will the cover include travelling to the chosen fishing place for the day to day trips we all make?

A lot of questions i know & for that i'm sorry but if its all made clear now i can assure you both Dian & I will be signing up & so i think will 95% of the anlgers who post on sites such as this one.

what would be the the maximum claim limit for one item of tackle.?
also what would be the maximum claim for a full set of tackle?
Or would the type of policy determine the amount of claim??

HOW ABOUT AN INSURANCE WHICH COVERS NOT JUST TRAVEL BUT
STORAGE AT HOME ( THEFT, DAMAGE, ETC)
DAMAGE ETC WHEN GOING FISHING (NOT JUST OUTSIDE THE UK)
DAMAGE ETC WHEN FISHING (NOT JUST IN THE UK)
BUT MOST OFF ALL MAKE THE TERM'S OF THE INSURANCE STRAIGHT FORWARD
AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND!!!

PS
I THINK IT'S A GREAT IDEA ANYWAY

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not going to respond to the various questions yet, as I'm going to give it another few days and see if any other ideas come in. What I will then do is post my proposed cover (basic details) on hear to get your final opinions. All I will say is that the cover will be intended for overseas trips, although it might be possible to give some UK cover where overnight stays are involved.
This cover will not replace standard tackle insurance in the UK, which should obviously be with a specialist insurer or on a household contents policy.

Please keep the ideas coming.

Thanks

Chris

I trust you managed to get it replaced by BA or did they try and fob you off with the standard "we only pay x per kilo" line.

Here is an initial draft of what may be able to be covered in addition to standard travel cover ie Med Ex / Personal Accident / Public Liability / cancellation etc.
Bearing in mind standard insurance limitations, what are your thoughts on the draft?

Suggested Anglers Extension Cover

Cover Conditions Sum Insured Excess
Accidental Damage to Fishing Tackle and Accessories Cover whilst in transit to and from final destination. Cover restricted to damage caused purely as a result of a road accident, or malicious damage by a third party (Police reports required) 5,000 (single article limit 1,500) 50
Damage to Tackle whilst in use Cover limited to damage to rods/poles/reels caused or happening whilst playing a fish, or by lightening, or by impact (fallen trees, animals etc) or by malicious damage(police report required for malicious damage) 1,500 50
Emergency Replacement Tackle If Tackle or accessories are damaged by any of the perils covered, then costs for emergency hire or purchase of equipment to enable the holiday to continue is covered (subject to costs incurred being less than a cancellation/curtailment claim 1,000 (single article limit 300) Nil
Loss of use of facilities due to travel delay 10% of holiday cost for each 24hrs where fishing is lost due to travel delay caused by ferry/airline companies etc 1,000 USA/Canada(max 100 per day)
500 Europe (max 50 per day) Nil
Curtailment Cover for additional costs, or % of unused holiday time, where the trip is curtailed due to accommodation (this could be anglers tents) is unihabital due to damage caused by severe weather/fire/or accident on route to venue or due to malicious damage 500 ( max 50 per day)
Theft Theft of tackle whilst attended either by force, or whilst asleep in tent (within 5metres of tackle), or following a road traffic accident on route to the holiday destination (police report would be required) 5,000 (max any one item - 1,000) 50
Cancellation Additional cover provided should there be a pollution or fish kill at the booked venue between the booking of the holiday and the date of departure, if a suitable alternative venue is not available. Insurers have the option to pay addition costs for the holiday to be switched to an alternative suitable venue including additional travel costs if applicable 500 Europe
1,000 USA/Canada Nil

Definitions

Single Article Rod/Reel/Pole/Tackle Box etc to be treated as single items. Rod Bag and Tackle Box does not include contents,ie Rod Bag with 6 rods, would constitute 7 items

Unattended Vehicle Any vehicle out of the site of the vehicle passengers other than if on ferry deck whilst in transit.
Unattended Tackle Any tackle where the owner of such tackle, or the person responsible for such tackle is more than 30m away from it, and/or where the tackle is out of sight of such individuals.

Seems fair to me Chris,

Couple of questions though before I rush off to work icon_smile_dissapprove.gif

Would the value of the fishing tackle be an agreed value or replacement value? Taking into account wear and tear.

Would the policy have an excess to minimize the number of small claims?

I'm not sure if I would be around to make a claim if my pole got damaged by lightening though icon_smile.gif

Sorry for the delay in replying. The basis of replacement cover is likely to be on a sliding scale of new for old, ie 100% first year, 85% second, 75% third etc.

There will be an excess on the various sections, as obviously the idea is to get rid of claims for less than 50.

The cover for ligthening etc, as you rightly say, is unlikely to be of much use to a pole fisherman if his pole gets struck whilst using it - however, the policy would also offer standard covers of medical expenses, PA/death and repatriation. The storm damage/lightening cover is more likely to be used by session specialist anglers etc.
