If your car has keyless entry and keyless start unfortunately they can be easy pickings for car thieves.
My RS has both so I have to have extra security. Both sets of keys are kept in Faraday pouches, I have a diskloc and for complete peace of mind a Ghost immobiliser.
Recently, car manufacturers who's cars have have keyless entry/start have started to introduce 'sleep' mode on the keys. If the keys haven't moved in 30 minutes, the entry/start function is disabled.

No help for the OP though, I hope the insurance company don't mess you around too much.

So got up this morning around 0730 only to see an empty space on the drive where there should have been a car.
someone has had it away overnight. All locked up and everything. (i always check). Filled the tank, washed and cleaned it out yesterday evening too.

I f they don't take the car, it is the cat converter or the Airbags these days..

Insurance have paid out. A really fair price too. Still pretty stressful all round but on the bright side at least there is plenty of room on the drive now for our new Campervan which we collect tomorrow

This is another reason I never leave any car or van full of fuel, if either does get knicked the thief won't get far before having to stop at a petrol station full of cameras.

Organised car thieves will probably accommodate that fact. And even if you did leave it nearly empty. This could still give about 40 miles worth of driving which is a fair distance to get away.

Many years ago when I was a student, I had a part time job as a cashier at a local petrol station. After a while, you get to know your regulars. One was a guy who used to visit every evening and put £2 in his old Ford Escort. Eventually, I asked him why, and he explained that when he had had cars stolen in the past, he had to take the cost of the fuel in his tank as a loss, so his reasoning was that any car thieves can sort their own petrol out.

I'd be more inclined to put a fuel cut off switch somewhere, or a solenoid operated valve in the fuel line.

My lads mates dad had his BMW X5 parked on his drive under his bedroom window. Bedroom windows was open as it was summer. He went to get in the car to go to work one morning and found someone had taken his complete dash, door panels and steering wheel.
I’ve just got my insurance quote for the van. £753 they aren’t happy with the front spoiler and alloy wheels. I’ve also added a ghost but they didn’t mention that. Bloody insurance approved aswell.

That is until you have an accident and they then decide to say you didn’t notify them of all modifications and try and declare your policy null and void. Then the police start wanting to look at you for driving with no insurance. This was many many years ago, but one that left a bitter taste in my mouth. Mr Flux has got an amazing car collection, including two Porsche 911 gt1’s!

I've had modified vehicles for years and between Flux and A-Plan always managed a favourable quote listing all modifications.
The best one was my previous Hilux, chipped, plus several other tuning modifications and both insurers said the most they could add to the policy was about £15 because it was a commercial vehicle.

Cheers, I’ve heard of them but couldn’t remember their name.
Last year I paid £230 in may for a 12plate transit. Sept I bought a brand new transit and they charged an extra £80. I added wheels and spoiler and changed the grill and told them. They said they’ll honour it but at renewal I’ve to find someone else. I use a local company that do everything for me but I think it’s time to cut the middle man. It’s a shame as I’ve been with them 30+yr and have become good mates with a couple of the staff.

Stripped out, caged, buckets and harnesses, sequential box and lsd, handbuilt forged engine, on lairy cams, and a stand-alone ecu, didn’t used to be the easiest thing to insure.
