If your car has keyless entry and keyless start unfortunately they can be easy pickings for car thieves.
My RS has both so I have to have extra security. Both sets of keys are kept in Faraday pouches, I have a diskloc and for complete peace of mind a Ghost immobiliser.
Recently, car manufacturers who's cars have have keyless entry/start have started to introduce 'sleep' mode on the keys. If the keys haven't moved in 30 minutes, the entry/start function is disabled.
No help for the OP though, I hope the insurance company don't mess you around too much.
