Today weve hired some bikes and are going out for a ride. The last time I rode a bike was 40 years ago, when Sturmey Archer gears were all the rage and if you had a Chopper you were king of the road.....

Im guessing when I was about 15 years old. 37 years ago approximately. You do not want me on the road on a push bike. Ive very little balance stood on terra firma never mind on two wheels.

As soon as I was legally allowed to employ the internal combustion engine on the Queens highway all pedal powered transport was consigned to the back of the garage. If my parents hadn't moved house my last pushbike would probably still be there.
So in answer to the original question, probably 1981, possibly 82 - so about thirty-seven years.
