Are you getting mad with the Comics!
I read the Mail this week after having been interviewed by Bill Rushmer about Wraysbury for his where to fish guide!
Not only no mention, BUT there is a report on Wraysburys Stoney and Friends Charity match on the inside page.
The only problem is THE REPORT IS 1 YEAR OUT OF DATE!!!
The stupid dodos report that boy Doe catching a 20lb Pike! Well that was from 2001! and the money raised 1069!!! Well it was over 1600 this year. Criminal stupidity in reporting terms.
In where to fish Midlands, I read about Press Manor Fishery! I'm a member there, its 4 miles from me.
I dont recognise any of the Anglers, the descriptions, or the Pictures!
I understand that the where to fish column can be bought, so disbelieve all you read!
There is an interesting quote that a German has been fined for putting a Carp back alive, however, the source of describing how they flaunt "the crazy law" is a Dutchman, so I expect if I catch and release next week, I'll end up in the Mail!
If they cannot get anything right as simple as a fishing report, how can you trust the content of the advice, tips etc. as the illustrations are often designed to sell papers, rather than have any bearing on the subject and Truth is way down the list of priorities!

Disgusted, Tunbridge next the nuthouse!

Totaly agree Trev, over the last few years all the weekly and monthly mags as well have realy gone down hill.

They no longer contain more than a few pages of interest at a time (unless you want to see and read about the same carp being caught all the time).
And it's great how you can openup a copy of AT or AM in the middle of winter when it's been freezing for weeks and see a picture of some one in a nice T-SHIRT in the sun holding their prize catch (to win a prize).

And the amount of times that you see a fish that is supposed to be a 40lber when it's clear to see it's nearer 20lb that happens at least once a week in each comic.

About 3 years ago i used to send in a venue report for a fishery i was involved in and every week you could gurantee it would read totaly different to what i had told them.

Now a days i get the weeklies for the match results but nearly every time you read a report then ring one of the people thats quoted as frameing from a certain peg in a certain way. You find they were not on the peg quoted did not fish how the report stated and was never asked by anybody what they did or used in the match.

Even the latest one to hit the street is screwing up the reports and they only cover the Midlands.

Trouble is i still buy them all even if only to send me to sleep after a night shift.

hi
i agree that some reports are unbelievable but i sent an email report to tony keeling the reporter for A.M.3 weeks ago and it went into the where to fish eastern region the following week virtualy word for word i also send him my reports on my summer opens and there has never been one wrong sometimes i think some people send in misleading reports so i dont think that the comics can be totaly blamed all the time.

tight lines.

Guess you must have a good relationship with the Guy Martin, and he probably knows you well enough to rely on your report.
On the thursday after I left you, I had a drink on the way home with Elton of Anglers net and discussed the Wraysbury report.
He put me on to this mysterious Pike and sure enough I read the 2001 report on Stoneys site and they,ve used that!! A YEAR OUT OF DATE!
Couldnt believe it!
Anyway, Martin, Thanks for a smashing two days and I've sent off a report to poor ole Dave!
If he ever gets through it he might put it up!!!!
Cya soon mate

I haven't bought an angling mag for over two years, however i picked up a friends last week and saw a most interesting article. It was a two page spread in the anglers mail (published around feb 12th ish) concerning a proffesional fisheries team called "rockingham fisheries". If any of you have this copy go back and read it carefully as there is a large exageration of truth. From money spent on equipment, number of fisheries managed to hits on the web site - it all has aquatic garden centre mark up!! Take a look at the picture of the seine net that has been pulled up the bank leaving hundreds of fish on the grass? i don't understand it. Oh yeah, and the rowing boat that made up 20,000 worth of electrofishing gear. I would be very interested on everyones views on this article - does it give fishery consultants a good name?

Cyp.

while im on the subject take a look and read the material on http://www.supafish.com/ . One thing of note is the specialized specimen transport system encorporating "Crash protection via integral reinforced strengthening" Don't all home heating fuel tanks have two skins lol - take a look.

Damn, now I'm going to have to go out and borrow a copy
it makes you wonder though.

Mat, I thought all fishery consultants worked for the EA,
lol
The specialist transporters made me laugh though, I once remember having to maually fill a trailored 7.5 ton lorry with a series of tanks on the lorry and the same on the trailor, albeit not by myself tho'.
The site certainly gave me a chuckle, especially the 1,216,000 bytes of images just on the transportation page

Trev's famous,He's in Anglers Mail.
Oi Trev, what's all this, Bill Rushmer says you caught two pike at Wraysbury on the Saturday, you told us you only caught one!!!!!!!!!You withholding information.
Are you sure that he interveiwed you, cause he still got the amount raised wrong error.gif
How hard can it be to get a few simple facts right thinking.gif
Never let the facts get in the way of a good story roflmao.gif

LOL Peter,
Haven't seen it so can't comment yet, but I suppose I'll have to buy 1 more!
John will confirm, he was there!

It makes you wonder just how much total bull we are fed by our National and Daily Newspapers as well,
On a related post, as I was driving at 6.00 am this morning, I heard that the F & M tests would take 48 hours to confirm clear and therefore the longer the tests took, the happier we should be!
I assume this was to alleviate worry over delay!
Then I find 12hours later that its all O.K.
Whilst relieved and pleased, I still have a worry because of that earlier news on the BBC.
Newspapers can be manipulated for Proaganda as well as the idle incompetence that MALC describes over match reports and I'm glad to see that Martin has at least found 1 conscientious gut in A.Mail.
John will confirm that whilst Bill was an OK guy and chatted away to us alright, the notes were taken down by the lady with him, so perhaps inter communication went awry again?

I hearby declare this to be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I'm Innocent. Seriously I was there and can confirm what Trev says is true. How the hell they got it wrong god knows cos I dont. Yes he caught a pike the first of the weekend it was photographed and weighed by Stoney himself. Me I blanked again, at the draw I was stood next to Trev. Who gets his number drawn out yes you guessed it. He held tickets for another yes you guessed it they won to. Did I no. The zippy curse is strong. Beware all who come near you have been warned, take heed or suffer the consequences.
Here ends the testimony of esox dated this day of our lord 28/2/02 Amen

Yeah Martin, It was very good, Thank you,
BUT you know Tony!
I genuinely did E-Mail them on my return from Wraysbury (Just to the e-mail address, no specific person as I don't know anyone there,) AND I sent the picture to push the MacMillan Banner!

No reply, not even an acknowledgement, but they did have the facts! and still printed Bull! lol
Not to worry, Thanks for your wishes ref Germany and I'll be back to bore you all before you know it!

Wonder what the curse will bring over there!!!

Like you I am amazed that AM got the details all wrong about Wraysbury. I also agree that the standard of both has reduced considerably over the last year or so.
HOWEVER, in AM's defence, they do at least support Stoney's events by always giving them a mention in advance, and by reporting on them (albeit this time incorrectly) afterwards. This is a distinct improvement on AT who rarely publish anything about the events, and even when they did ordain to mention it this year prior to the event, overlooked telling people that they needed tickets in advance.
In Bill Rushmere's defence, he is an avid supporter of Stoney's events and helps to raise the profile of them whenever he can. Prehap's it's an age thing (Sorry Bill) getting the facts wrong.

To put the record straight over the money raised, it was 1,653.77.

all the best

Chris

ps I've overcome the Zippy Curse and your picture is now on the www.stoneyandfriends.co.uk photo gallery page

Thanks Chris and nice to see the final total well over last years.

I just get very annoyed with the lack of importance attached to the truth after seeing all the efforts you guys put in!

I finally managed to get a copy of Mar 2nds edition and am amazed again that the Stephen Doe story From Last Year, is repeated!
AND was I asleep when I caught the second one? Did John land it without telling me! LOL

We seem to be doing well for Elvington and I hope to see you soon.

Cheers (and well done in beating the curse lol)

Oh Dear,

Just goes to show how differently a story can be reported in two different papers!!!!!!

Tuesday(9th) Angling Times with a front page photo and virtually the whole of pages 2-3, leads on the story of a young lad who has caught a potential new record perch. They had obviously put a bit of effort into it with Photo's and interviews with the captor & his father also comments from a couple of well respected perch anglers (Steve Burke & Martin Bowler)

They also did not name the water after being asked not to by the owner, for fear of the venue being inundated with people intent on catching a record.(Well done Richard Lee)

Contrast this with the Anglers Mail (Wed 9th)Tucked away at the bottom of pages 4-5 is a piece about the capture that appears to cast doubt on the weight of this fish.No photo,no interview and to top it all the name of the venue along with the phone number of the fishery.

This to my mind seems to have been done in a fit of jealousy as the Times obviously beat the Mail to the story.
This is Tabloid journalism at it's worst and does the Mail no credit at all.

Hi Peter,

I fully agree with you on this. The article in the Times was well written and offered that all important bit of professionalism not only in the way that it was reported but they obviously put alot of effort into the article which you can bet will now have been passed around all of Dean Rawling's mates and family and more than likely will take pride of place in his home.

Well done to Dean on the capture and it just goes to show that you don't need to have all the best of everything to catch a record. Which may be the reason for the 'mud slinging', who knows?

Hopefully tomorrow I'll have some pics and a write up in the 'Maggot Times'

Dave
