Hi everyone,

After burning the midnight oil I have written some scripts that will allow you to upload and use a photo in the forums.
They will be added into a seperate database and the code for using in your posts is also provided.
Not only that, it gives you the facility to check the byte size and optimize the photo before adding it.

Please feel free to try it out and give me any feedback.

*** Please keep all testing of images either in this thread or in the PlayGround as this is only at the testing stage ***

The biggy in all this is - You are responsible for the photo's you upload, any abuse of our Terms and Conditions and I will have to remove this rather than finalize it.

Apart from that, enjoy icon_smile.gif

Dave unsure if it's a glitch or just me (you know how good i'am with puter)

but when tried to post the above it refused connection 4 time on posting and 6 times on the preview.

Also by crunching a photo what is lost in the process as all the the samples appeared the same with no loss of quality just reduction in byte size ?

Told you i know nothing about puters icon_smile_big.gificon_smile_big.gificon_smile_big.gif

Hi Malc,

The connection lost was down to me at this end as I was doing a bit to the server at the same time.
It should be alright now.

When crunching/optimizing an image you are effectively reducing the file size by removing unwanted colours and merging the pixels. The trade off can be quality depending how far you go.
In the main most images for web use can be reduced to 30-40k bytes without noticeable loss. Printing them would be a different matter.

Try it again shortly and let me know if it's okay.

Cheers, Dave

Dave this one took 4mins from start to this stage and that included me studying the images to try to find the difference.
MUCH BETTER THAN THE HALF HOUR IT WAS TAKING ME YESTERDAY

Original was 73571 bytes and this one is only 13207 bytes and i could see no difference in quality as you said.

Tried preview 4 times with no problems

Full marks Dave your a 5 STAR RED WONDERLOL

Thought I'd take this opportunity to show everyone a nice bit of work by one of our outstanding road maintenance crews. Our US tax dollars at work.

Hi Keith,

Depending on the software that you have with your scanner, you may find that you have the option to automatically crop the photo. If so using this will remove the white background and just save the image itself.
Failing that the option is available in Start>Accessories>Paint but remember to save the image as a JPG rather than a BMP as otherwise you will find that the file size is enormous.
