Talking Pictures will be showing this programme (1955-1974) regularly on Sunday nights at 9. This Sunday's first one is from 1957.

Looking forward to the Tiller Girls, Pinkie & Perky etc.

For those too young to know the programme - watch it and learn what Variety is all about.

They had some right rubbish acts too:

Topo Gigio !

Tony Holland, muscle man.

To name but two.

Blimus that takes me back. Beat the clock, the Tiller girls.
Little anecdote that I was told by someone in the business at the time and assured me that it's true. (It does sound kosher).
Booking person approaches Lew Grade and says, "boss, I've managed to get Tito Gobbi booked for the Palladium".
Grade put his head in his hands and muttered, "not that f***ing mouse again".

Note for my younger reader.
Lew Grade was the boss of the company that presented Sunday Night at the London Palladium.
Tito Gobbi was a world renowned Italian operatic bass-baritone
Topo Gigio was puppet mouse that seemed at times a permanent fixture on the bill.
