HI Rico
squats are sold in sand,
they are normally used to catch small
fish on the canal fished on 22 /24 hook
i use the very red ones the nearest you get to blood worm
the beauty of squat is when you cup them in
they stay in your swim longer were as maggot crawl
into the silt a lot faster

Rico,
If you want to feed them up a bit, soak a slice of bread in some milk, and pop this in your bait box, inside of 24 hours they will have eaten the lot.Oh and dont let the sand they come in dry out,it should be kept slightly damp,i think it's foundry sand(but i could be wrong there)

When the goings tough, I tend to use Sguats just as food, as they stay in the swim better than other maggots and particulatly Bream, seem to stay interestedly picking up these small maggots.
For hookbait ,I tend to use the larger maggots,ie Pinkies or the maggot itself.
For the record, as I understand it, Squats are the larvae of the housefly,Pinkies, the Greenbottle and Maggots, the Bluebottle.
I don't know if the fish give a toss about that though!
Any larger bait fished over squats, tend to give me a better stamp of fish.

Cheers
