I will explain the UD agent some more:

The UD agent runs in the background (if you have a fast PC) or as just a screen saver (if you dont) the program downloads a small WU (Work Unit) from there servers. The program then goes in to action crunching numbers, or to be more specific protiens and molicules. This could lead to a cure for cancer.

The agent, even if it is running in the background stops once you need the CPU cycles and you hardly notice its there appart from when it needs another WU. There are no prizes available so its no good doing it for self gain. Once a team is set up anyone can join it or retire from it at will.
