Do you have the line coming out of the top of the hook, or bottom when tying spade end hooks? Or maybe I should say back or front, and does it really matter?

I would retie if I ever had it coming off the back of the hook, it just doesn't sit right for me, kicks off at the wrong angle. 🤷‍♂️

Most are likely to suggest the front of the spade. However, there are individuals that will say that it either doesn't matter or that they prefer the line to come off the back.

Was taught to whip from top to bottom with a Drennan hook tyer and have the line coming off the front of the spade, works for me.

The spade normally kinks backwards so the line should be from the front so it does not chafe on the edge of the spade.
