Spade ends,
A lot of it is down to ease of manufacture.It's much easier to make the smaller sizes as spade ends than to make them with an eye.
Also with the chemicaly sharpened hooks,part of the process involves them being tumbled in a drum in a chemical solution,and if they had eyes there is every chance that they would all come out attached to each other like a daisy chain [:D]
