How do some anglers look at a pole float and say it is perfect for fishing sweetcorn, maggot, caster etc.

I understand picking a float for the conditions and depth of water but how can you tell if a float is good for fishing sweetcorn for example??

I make my choices depending on thickness and sensitivity of the tips and stems, body shapes, weight of the float and length.

Over time you learn as to which offers the best indication from certain baits.

Excellent question Rob. Can I add the following more specific question?
Maybe I don't fully understand paste fishing yet but why do we use floats with such long tips?

most of the time with paste you fish it dead on depth with a long tip you can set it with the tip about 2/3 under surface with paste actualy final wieght on rig that way you can see every touch of the bait also when small bits have been knocking small pieces off then your tip although will rise slightly will still be sensitive enough

tight lines.
