Be nice to have @squimp along if not too far away? Be nice to put a face to the name :) Also @Arch naturally :D and i've never met @Dave or @Peter either.

I'll lose a nugget to Peter so Dave doesn't have to :p

Only about 3.5 hours drive and Ive never fished the Trent in my life !

If you arrange for it to rain 2 days prior, I could be tempted.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make this match so Peter's nugget will be safe ;)

It happens mate. i will not pay for the pegs untill a week before so dont worry about that mate.
Cheers Gixer, it turns out it's all my fault because I didn't put the match on the calendar at home  Therefore my wife and my sister decided to arrange an extended family get together to celebrate my birthday that is on Sunday5th of September, seeing as the wife and I are already booked to go out on Saturday the 4th. Had I not mentioned the match last Sunday to the Mrs, I would still be oblivious to the surprise party in my honour and in deep doo doo if I wasn't there.

Lessons learned and I will definitely put any further matches onto the calendar at home so as to avoid marital conflict. Count me in for the next one (y)

Just after some info on this stretch in preparation for the match, this an out and out feeder match or are other methods likely to figure? Any wise words appreciated.

Wednesday's match just gone was won off peg 3 with 39lb. Groundbait feeder a mixture of bream/skimmers and chub. There was two smaller barble weights in the higher number pegs.
The bigger fish are all along this stretch normally caught on the feeder across. Like most of the Trent these better fish don't always feed. If they don't there's plenty of roach to be caught with 10lb possible of most pegs.

Ian it's not a section I've fished a lot but I tend to fish float ie bolo or waggler depending on the wind. There's roach to be caught on most pegs.
I'm sure you would catch them on a short feeder approach propably 20 to 30 turns.

On the Wednesday matches there's always a lot that fish the feeder well across for bigger fish.

Not on the scrounge, but if anyone has a spare rod / pole tube such as the Daiwa or Cadence rod tube here I would happily buy it if it could be brought on the day or to the Pork Pie Match at Lakeview on 2nd October.

Thanks. :upthumb:

Having just bought a couple of barbel rods and a reel, I need to christen them. Anyone know of any decent river matches coming up, preferably on the Trent? Only got half a clue about river fishing, merely some distant memories of a misspent youth probably all changed now so Ill be fishing old school until I can catch up

Rather than matches just come along with some of us from here, plenty of us in the same boat as you with not much experience I get on the Trent every other Saturday pretty much
