Can someone point me in the right direction of how to set up with hydro (with a stonfo type connector) without losing the liquid.

I set up a black hydro a few years ago and I think I got around this problem by using a stora-bung. After fitting the stonfo connector the liquid cannot escape, when trimming the end, because of the knot. It is a while ago so I may be wrong but I`m still using the same elastic with no ill effects.

I guess I'm wondering how to tie the stonfo on without losing the liquid?

Just tie it on as usual. Once the knot is tight you can trim the end without any loss of liquid.

tie a knot right at the end and pull it really tight. then thread the small knot through it and tie as normal and cut it off. no loss of necessary liquid
