Yeah you are much better with a traditional style float rod than carp style if you are not deliberately targeting them. All but the lightest ones will handle the odd carp fine.

Think of it like screwdrivers

There are numerous flat headed screwdriver

You probably only need a small medium and large yet mostly use the medium

The rod suggested Maver MVr has a line rating 3lb to 8lb, in my experience that means it's most comfortable up to 6lb

That is about as "medium " as it gets and should cover silvers and match size carp easily

I now want one even more

Just found mvr commercial match rod on bobco for £60
I presume this is the same rod nejohn recommended from Bristol
Is Bobco a reliable source

No problems with Bobco, give them a call 1st though just to double check stock as they were getting low on stock

I phoned Bobco but no phone service at the weekend
I ordered the rod on line as it showed they had stock and order is confirmed
Thanks for advice and fingers crossed it turns up and is as good as suggested

I have used Bobco quite a bit and never had any issues with them so hopefully all will be good

Thanks for all the good info
The maver rod arrived and I have used it twice.
Love it its very light
First cast caught a nice bream
Second cast small carp
Lucky rod.
I now need a new reel as my old daiwa harrier m20 has packed up.
Currently I have a Daiwa 4000 match and feeder which I bought for my drennan twin tip duo.
Any suggestions for a new reel
Should I keep the daiwa on my drennan rod and buy a reel for my maver.
I looked at the maver mvr 4000 reel.
Looks good but no stock anywhere at the moment
I do like the idea of another Daiwa but which one
I don't want to spend over £100
Thanks again nejohn for the rod recommendation
