If I'm not expecting quick bites I tend to set it to the right as your photo with the rod butt on a side rest.
However if fishing the method or getting a lot of bites I tend to put it to the left and rest the rod butt on my leg
Normally rod right to left, if fishing strait in front to give a angle for bite detection, a lot of the pegs I fish do not have enough room for any other configuration. I know when fishing to far bank or islands on match lakes some point strait at the feeder rod in a down angle, rod goes left or right with a take I have tried it but it's not for me. At the end of the day you can set it up how you like as long as you can see the bites and your in controll.
