I've assumed that the stated line guides on rods i.e. 1.5lb to 6lb is the hooklength and not the main line. Is this correct?[?]
Just want to check before a purchase.

no dont think it is right(but i could be wrong).i've always thought it is the mainline raiting, cause of the diameters of the line to diameters of the rings.thats why carp rods have larger ring to say a float rod.the carp rod uses a larger diameter line so it needs bigger rings to stop friction enabling you to cast further than than if u had smaller rings

It is the mainline rating that is stated on your rod not your hooklength look on the manufactures website it may have information on suitable hooklengths as well as main lines, I know http://bobcotackle.co.uk/ has the info from Shimano brochures with there rods
