Hi everyone,

A friend of mine in Germany (Thomas) has sent me some pics of a couple of roach he caught in his local lake.

He usually fishes it for bream, but a couple of roach turned up.

He didn't have any scales on him, but he did measure them. One was 46cm from nose to tail and the other was 43cm.

Is there anyway to accurately estimate their size, like the pike scale?

had a quick look for any research - this is about the best I can find.

The answer would seem to be about 3lb 10 to 4lb - fish to die for,

Wow !

A pal of mine lived in Germany for a while and caught some big roach on a reservoir. But they weren’t quite that big !

I don’t think it will be too long before some of our own roach meet these dizzying weights. On commercials they do get to eat a rich diet and with no real predators who knows.

They already live in some of the big carp syndicate waters getting big feeding off high protein carp poo!
Terry Earner has caught a few ?

It is a little sickening how many whopping roach get fluked by barbel and carp anglers ?

The bottom roach looks much bigger than the other one, nice size fish shame about the condition of them though
