I was a member a few years ago, hardly went as the journey was a nightmare. Woking is bearable, an hour possibly, but hitting Guildford on the A3 was terrible.

Lovely river, I was also a member at Cobham for 25+ years, the Mole is very similar, I'd love to get back on it.

New spool is one of these
So you still get tangles round the spindle with the new spool? Which has rubber o rings rather Than chenille, but it should stop the problem to a greater extent. Hmmm ... not sure ther is much more you can do!

How did you find parking I normally go to Woodside Farm because parking is better not so many swims though.

You probably caught a dace that's what I normally catch the most of.

I think there are more swims available especially for the float if you can park at Somerset Bridge but parking is very limited now. My favourite stretch is Blackwater but better in autumn when weed dies down, have fished Thames sections a few times in pass and it was quite good then.

Went down to Woodside myself Wednesday a bit slower and busier than normal, couple of Grayling one Trout a few Dace 1 small Chub a Gudgeon and Perch all on float fished maggots. I was told that there are a couple more parking spots by Somerset Bridge now, but there Bullocks on that side of river which can be a pain.

Must be a dribble by now with the lack of rain .
i do see a more anglers on the stables side due to easier parking.
not actually seen anyone trotting there other than me, maybe as winter approaches and the streamer weed dies down that might change.
The left hand side is definitely favoured by lead anglers, right hand side only has 3 long glides for the float.
The other side is much more float friendly..just those big cow thingies make angling impossible when they are in the field.
a couple of the regulars have mentioned seeing barbeli in that stretch..
take their word for it as my fish indentification is laughably lacking

On Wednesday someone was leaving as I arrived and another arrive just after me, there was one person on other bank and two more arrived on my side later. As you say not many swims suitable for float better on other bank, river wasn't to low but I don't think bright conditions helped. I heard of Barbel coming out, thought I had hooked one a couple of years ago turned out to be a Carp of about 5lb. Up until this year it's been very quite more often than not you had that stable side to yourself. There are a lot of crayfish in there which can make the lead Almost impossible.
