River Irwell???

I know this may be a stupid and pointless question, and perhaps many of you have never even heared of this river, but as a northener, i like to know things about my surroundings.
Many tell me that the river irwell is just polluted and has no fish in it, but is this true???
Any info would be great.

Hi Percher,
big article in the M.E.N. a while ago on the river with good roach being caught as far up as the city centre !!!It's being cleaned up and re-stocked and is fishing well.[^]

The River Irwell has plenty of fish in it and is fishable from
Ramsbottom ( North of Bury ) right the way through to Manchester
Bream, Chubb, Roach, &( carp in certain Areas.

I agree the fishing on the Irwell is great
But check the weather with all these hills the level is up & down like a fiddlers elbow
