Firstly, I would just like to say hello to everyone, I am brand new to this forum, it looks real good.

I have been using 1 of my Shimano 5010GTs when fishing the method for some time but have decided to put it back on my carp rod and get a new reel. I was considering just buying another 5010GT as I can pick one up for 60, but I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a reel that may be better suited for the method and heavy feeder work.

Welcome Stribbo to the MD forums.

Personaly i use the 5010 and have done so for about five years now for all method and heavy feeder work and the only way i would change is to upgrade to the 6010.

I think they are spot on for the job.

I must admit, I really do like the 5010GT and it appears I'm not the only one so I think I'll probably stick with it.

Thanks

I have never fished the method in my life but for a cheap Shimano feeder reel try Index (you know the littlewoods version of Argos) The have the Shimano Sahara 4000 RE RRP 53 in stock for only 35 quid. Its what i use and i am very happy with it.

Its not what you have got, it's how you use it

Stribbo,
It's obvious from your post and the agreement by the lads that Shimano is high on the list and that you all use Baitrunner reels.

I am constantly amazed at Askari Prices and I wonder if you had considered this Baitrunner Reel at 14.95

The Cormoran 3BRS in 4 sizes comes complete with 2 Graphite spools and is a 3 Ball Bearing job.
Rear Baitrunner adjustment and Front Drag.

Good Luck

just bought the ultimate reel for the method.
like the holsten pils advert, the gaffer of all reels is the shimano 8000 GTE baitrunner.
No contest !
