Red Kidney Beans

I read on the tench page of this site that a red kidney bean is a good bait for tench - is it necessary to pre-bait with this or is it an 'instant bait'?

Also any other baits I could try other than the usual(maggots, casters, sweetcorn, worms etc)?

Nah mate i think its best to pre-bait. I tried on a newish, unfished water with plenty of tench in and had no success whatsoever. Ive heard chic-peas are also meant to be good. Tell us how you get on. **Joey-mackeral**

Chic-peas are brilliant, and you can flavour them, and/or dye them. Cheap, easy to hook and quicker to get a response than kidney beans (usually)

Please be aware uncooked kidney beans are poisonous. They must be soaked and cooked properly. Of the two chic peas have a better track record with tench.

Red kidney beans are best left where they are at their best - in chilli con carne!
