No, I removed the preview option as tbh it was no longer needed with this version of software with the editor in use and it took up valuable space on the toolbar when viewed using mobile devices.

Why do New member posts require approval before displaying?

When posting for the first time as a new member the first two ‘new threads’ and the first two ‘replies’ require moderator approval before being displayed publicly.
Once you have posted two threads/ two replies, then the approval restriction is removed and you are free to post without approval.
The only exception to this is the ‘Tackle Reviews’ section where all posts are fully moderated and require approval and that applies for all members.

The limits are in place to restrict spam and whilst they can sometimes be seen as a mild annoyance, the benefits in spam reduction far outweigh the inconvenience.

Hi Dave. Daft question but, how do you put a different smiley/emoji in the bar at the bottom of posts? All I can do is the thumbs up "like" which doesn't cut it for everything out there.

OK Here's a weird one:

If I click the smiley face and select a certain cake image, it looks like this: 🎂

But if, before I post it, I highlight it and use CTRL-C or CTRL-X and CTRL-V to copy/cut & paste it, it pastes differently: 1635168283148.png
But once posted it reverts to the original image! 🎂

Obviously you can't cut your cake and paste it!

Is that not your device rendering the image based on the BB code and the characters it uses cross referencing your device's library?
Then once the paste is completed it will display the original image as copied?

I'm not sure. If I add some characters as markers, then look at the "inspect" window for the page before posting, this

looks like this

Yeah. I reckon you're right. All the icons do it in one way or another. This guy for example  becomes 1635320503576.png when cut & pasted. I'd just not seen one turn into another icon before.

All the cakes:
🍰🧁🥞🎂🍥🥮

and the same cut & pasted. (before posting)

I managed to nail this down, the forum software uses text replacement so when certain text is posted it cross references the text against our database and from which selects which smilie is linked to the text.
Therefore if you select for example a smilie that uses the text- : cool elsewhere (all one word, no spaces), you might see your original smilie when you cut and paste but once the 'Post reply' button is used the forum software cross references that code against our database of images and posts the relevant one.

A little tip, when posting if you type in a colon : followed by a description such as cool you should see smilie options using cool within their name (other words are available, the full list of smilies and their text replacements can be found here: https://www.maggotdrowning.com/forums/help/smilies/

ATTACHMENTS

I've been asked several times recently where you can find a list of recent attachments you may have posted on the forum. The link to them is within your profile which can be found here:

1638034173303.png

This will open up a new page showing images you have attached to posts and code to use if you wish to re-use them

Ah. I tend to only dip into "Fishing Talk" now and then. So I missed the post. RIP Mick.
