TIP. If you regularly fish matches in the summer months at
Carp venues where cat meat is banned and you can't seem
to get a result. Try defrosting a good quality bag of
prawns , break them to fit (Preston Ino - hook size 12).
Won't work everytime but when it does it's a guaranteed
Result.
P.S. Defrost prawns in sealed bag and keep them in their
own water.[8]

ALL THE BEST AND GOOD FISHING FOR 2003.

Hi Graham

Why do they have to be good quality prawns?

Have you used them on rivers for chub or barbel? I was thinking of using raw prawns myself to resemble crayfish, but I can't seem to find any smallish raw ones (i.e. to go on a size 6 hook)? Maybe not the right question to a match fisherman, but perhaps some-one else out there has done this.

Cheers.

They're good for tench too, I've only ever used the cooked ones, though may try and scratch some up from the coast this summer and try them too. Anyone know where I can get a shrimp dredge.

I don't know where you can get a shrimp dedge from, but you can get loads of live shrimps out the harbours in Cornwall. This summer we collected them by the bucketfull and floatfished them with coarse tackle off the harbour wall in Mevagissy to catch wrasse and pollack while on hols.

No-one - I just said I was thinking of trying raw ones (instead of cooked ones) for chub as they might look like crayfish. I also wondered if you had use the cooked ones on rivers? blahblah.gif

No mate, I would'nt use them on a river.
But you never know, there's always a first
time for everything. Give it a try & let me
know how you get on.

Prawns, cockles, shrimps, muscles & crab sticks all work well for carp, tench, chub & cruies & not just in the summer either.
Oh & another good bait is the tentacles from calamari.
