I am an ex Trout Angler who has decided to start course fishing. So in the autumn I bought myself a Pole - Dam Tiger Carp. I enjoy the fishing but find the complexity of rigs confusing. I have read Bob Nudds excellent book.

I do have a problem with the fine line and the knots and my eyesight.

I have bought a hook tyer and this is very good but is there a product that will help me get consistant loops in my hooklengths and rigs.

Any other help with Pole fishing tricks and tips would be great. I should add I'm not using my poe just for carp.

Hi Polepot, With reference to your query re tying loops SEYMO produce a loop tying gadget (priced about 1.50 -2.00) with which you can tie small or large loops, hope this helps

All I can add here is "welcome" as well.

I'd be happy to offer lots of pole advice but I have never even seen one.

Hi Polepot
a must for all pole anglers
is a STONFO DOSAPIOMBO its a device to
shot your pole floats with ease
its so easy to use, save you hours setting your floats up,
then when you put your rig on winder write on the side
what you`v used, ie 8foot/ 2lb line/ 6no8shot/ 2no 11dropers/ 1lb hook
length/ 20hook/ red top,and if you get tangled just copy whats on the winder for new rig saves time,if you have trouble with small shot
just put a piece of cellotape on a board pin it then put shot
on tape split up lay line in close with tweezers it works every time

Hello

i have bad eyesight too,so i have found a magnifying glass very handy when tying pole rigs,i use one of the jewellers ones that you can hold in place with your eye which leaves both hands free to pinch on no.12 shot and tie up .1mm line,it works well.you should be able to get one from a sewing or model making shop.

also if your using your pole for long sessions you might want some way of taking the strain off you back, either with a good pole rest or a seatbox with a pole seat,it will save a lot of backache when the fishing is slow.

good luck

Just to thank Adam and Scouse for their advice.

I've sat here and used the tape idea and it works really well.

hi & welcome to MDs polepot & anglerfish.
i dont bother with a magnifier glass ijust go to the pound shop and get a set of 2.5 times magnification reading glasses to see to put the shot on
to set a rig to correect wieght for float i have a 2lt coke bottle with the top cut off i shot the rig up using this filled with water
if you dont put shot on to tight when setting up you can slide them to final position afterwards
one final thing in test i will allways just overshot them as when you get to river it is easier to take 1 off than put 1 on esp, if your setting up for match
