Hi All,

When deadbaiting for Pike, when is the right time to strike?
I have always been a believer that it is better to strike early into a run rather than leave it until the fish stops to turn the bait when there may be a risk of it gorging the bait.

Hi Dave.
as you have said, it is not advisable to wait until the end of the run I personly just pick up the rod, and as soon as the line is tight to the rod then strike, I don't miss many.

Hi Dave,Allan,
Spot on,hit them early, far better to loose the odd one than to risk deep hooking a fish, and make sure that you use an indicator that is capable of registering dropbacks just incase the devil swims toward you.
Good luck tomorrow, let us know how you get on.
Cheers,
Peter

Hmmm
well, has anyone any good tips how to catch Pike
?

Stu and I went to Castle Howard Lake, a well respected home of ol' Essox and well, hmmm the scenery was nice anyway.

The wind howled across the lake towards us, it absolutely lashed it down for nearly 2 hours. I had a run early on which I missed but on retrieving the 1/2 Mackerel it looked like it must have been an over ambitious jack pike, judging by the marks.
Stu on the other hand had one run that resulted in a 6lb'er in perfect condition.
The only other angler on the lake caught a small jack around 2lb....

.... but I wasn't disheartened as I was only after the larger ones, honest
