It was local experts Steve Crawley and Sau Phung who took the honours on the day. Steve drew on peg 3 in A section (Broughton) and made no mistake, landing five quality bream in his 6.75kg catch, on pole fished worm for 1 point. Sau backed this up brilliantly with a hard earnt 1.91kg of roach, skimmers and perch from B section (Tesco), which was enough for third.
Second pair on the day were Peter Laughton and Andrew Webster. In A section Peter also landed multiple bream, but of a slightly smaller stamp for his 6.16kg and two points. Once more this was on the pole to the lily pads. His partner Andrew Webster also had a good day, taking second spot in B section with 2.31kg of silvers and 2 points to boot.
The final pair to qualify were father and son pairing James and Dave Lewis. James drew peg 6 on B section and fished a patient match, catching two bream on worm well down his peg for 2.98kg and third in section. Dave on the other hand, plundered the small silvers in B section on squatt, amassing 1.37kg and scoring 5 points.
Our thanks once more must go to the Pilkingtons’ for a well-run match, The next AT & CRT Canal Pairs qualifier heads to the Shropshire Union from Coalyard to Betton Wood on: Saturday 10th August.
