I'm banned for life from our local CPW over the same thing - took a phone in that was insured and still under the manufacturer's warranty, bought from them, insured with them and gone faulty.

After queueing for over half an hour finally got to the front of the queue. explained the fault, got told the insurance didn't cover faults and their guarantee had expired but I could leave it with them to repair for a fee.
I had a debate with the assistant over the insurance and got told the insurance was only for loss and damage.
So I asked if I had bought the phone in damaged would I have been given a replacement, to be told yes.

Head went and I launched the phone across the shop, it hit a wall, bounced back along the floor and landed against the opposite wall. The queue behind me stepped back and I calmly walked over, picked the phone up, put it on the counter in front of the assistant and manager who'd come out and told them the phone was broken, now can I make a claim?

I was asked to leave, the police would be called and I was banned for life from the shop.
I left, went home, phone O2, they sent me a free upgrade the following day, no charge.
I would not touch CPW insurance with a barge pole

Most people are covered under the contents insurance for their house. I dropped my phone in a lake while fishing and calmed. £50 excess and an upgrade to the next model as the old one was no longer made took 4 days for the new phone to arrive.

Are you covered through your bank? We’ve got club Lloyd’s account and we get phone/travel cover included.

If not then most household insurance policies allow you to add a phone either under the generic policy or by adding it as a specified item, and the cost isn't that great.
Just check to make sure it covers you for loss and damage rather than just loss. Repairs are generally not covered and you might have an excess to pay which might be more than the cost of replacing a cracked screen.

Im not sure if im going to reinsure my house and contents when it expires this time ,it cost me £500
Through my bank , as far im concerned its dead money ,ive only made two claims in last 55years,
one was for a stolen motorbike 6 weeks old from out my shed, other one was for a fridge ,they made getting a new one very difficult

The only problem is if you do not insure it you know for a fact it'll collapse or catch fire and every scrote will rob it and you'll not have a let to stand on.

When it's due go on the comparison sites and have a look around, £500 is a lot more than I am paying and we've got decent cover.

Be aware of paying too little for house insurance, if you undervalue your house or contents, a loss adjuster will reduce the value of any claim. It’s worthwhile doing an inventory of your contents every few years, many people would be surprised what they have and what it would cost to replace. I did mine a couple of years ago and ended up with a specialist broker, as my contents were above what many insurers cover in a general policy.

£5.11 ?? What were you covering, your collection of Delia Smith books ?
I have got fresh cover, mentioning the claim from last September and have paid £54 for £75,000 of home contents cover with £300 excess.

Our contents insurance is about £10 a month with Lloyds. I’m covered up to £5000 in my shed which is the main thing I’m bothered about although I calculated that replacement as new of my tackle would be £8440. I was really shocked when I did a full inventory.

When you do an inventory of your house it’s things like clothes and carpets that are difficult to tot up.
