Well then, one of those red letter days today. Me and Zach shuffled off to Rawcliffe because a. It’s only 5mins from home and b. my mate said some nice bream were showing. Quick stop off for a pint of red wigglers and we were on the bank.

Both set up on waggler (nice opportunity to use my new Maver Powerlite for something not carp) and fished 2-3 rod lengths at about 2-3 feet. Single red maggot, size 18 silverfish maggot hook, .08 hooklength etc etc.

Anyways, not loads and loads of fish, but my word, what good fish they were. Zach struck first with a lovely roach just shy of a pound, and that was followed throughout the afternoon with another five over the pound mark with the biggest being 1lb 14oz and a personal best for me. Also had a bream of 3lb 8oz and a couple of stripies of half a pound. Zach finally wrapped it all up with a small eel 🤣

Such a lovely afternoon fishing, and nothing “commercial” about it whatsoever.

Edit: sorry, can’t remember which photo corresponds to which fish, but you get the idea!

I’m just glad I didn’t opt for the flick-tipped whip as I’d originally planned! Would not have been too clever trying to swing those bad boy red fins to hand 🤣

Excellent fish well done
Makes you wonder where they’ve been hiding to all extent and purpose the fishing over recent times has been dire !

Thanks David, and I know what you mean! I fished Rawcliffe late summer and autumn in between lockdowns last year and always caught fish, but none like that and certainly no bream (not even a skimmer). I think there have been otter issues in the not too distant past, but I have heard that they've moved on- perhaps the fish that survived just flourish more in the absence of predation?
