A short trip to manchester airport ,checked the rods and baggage in,everything going to plan.
Had a brew and called to board the plane.1hr on the plane and descended in to Knock airport.Picked the hire car up and we are away.Just over 1hrs drive and we arrived at clew bay.
We had to pick the key up from Pauline who greeted us with a brew, the best homemade jam, scones and soda bread we have ever tasted.2 mins in the car and we arrived at the house

1st day we fished Lavender cottage stretch of the bay.

This is where we caught loads last year .There is a deep hole to about 30ft close in.Things didnt go to plan ,just 1 mackerel and a few small pollock.
2nd day we went walking the coast for miles in search of bass and sea trout to no avail. But the scenery made up for it.

We then found a new place on Achill Island called the winch, again a deep hole to 40ft close in.We had better luck here with lots of mackerel and pollock. This is shane with the best of about 4.5lb.

Next day on the Spanish Armada

Again just a few small pollock. There were sandeels jumping everywhere so we knew there were fish about. Then 2 fins popped up,at first thought it was dolphins like we saw last year.As it Got closer to us we realised it was a SHARK .We could only see its dorsal and tail fin which were about 6ft apart. What a fantastic sight,it stayed around for about an hour.At night we found out it was a Basking shark and not Jaws.Sorry no pics.
Back to Lavender cottage and we struggled again. What we did find was an amazing rig.A set of feathers but instead of the lead shane put a lure on ,instant takes of pollock. Then he cast out and got his finger stuck.Only went out a few yards and i was crying laughing ,untill he started to reel in .He had fluked a bass.

Next day was at Bullsmouth as shane likes fluff chucking.Again fish everwhere but only 1 small seat trout and a pollock fell to shane.

We had another day at the winch with loads of fish again.
These are the cliffes on Achill island

Were we were looked after by Tash and Annemarrie.

What a fantastic hol.We are not sea anglers so limited to what we can do .You can go out on organised trips, but we wanted solitude and found it.
Cheers to shane for a great week.
Cheers

It does look stunning Neil, my mate Les went to Fenit in Co. Kerry last year sea fishing and loved it.
