It was a tragedy that should never have happened. Just as a point of interest, there were 30 countries involved in WW2. At this point in time there are approx. 150 nations involved in wars or armed conflict ! Did we learn nothing ?

nothing at all, it was only 20 years before this date that

"The War to end All Wars was Fought"

when the call to arms is made, maybe joe soap ought to put those leaders on an island, give em enough weapons and ammo to sort it out and leave em to it

Think you are a bit off the mark with that one, there were almost 40 commonwealth countres or British territory alone whislt almost EVERY if not all countries were involved in some shape, way or form.

That list is of countries effected by ww2. Almost every country was affected but there were only 30 actively involved. For instance Ireland is on that list but was not actively involved.

Thats a matter of interpretation! 😉
France was actively indirectly involved in the Falklands conflict by supplying missiles and aircraft.

I think you are looking for directly or indirectly involve rather than actively?

thirty countries

With over thirty countries involved in the war, World War II absolutely reached the point of being the largest, deadliest, and most destructive nationwide war to date.
The fact is only 30 countries declared war ! Many others were effected by the war because of disruption to supplies ! Either way it is a war that should never have happened !

I may surprise people to know that lots of Irishman signed up and joined the British Army, Navy or RAF by their om volition, many rising to high office within the forces and making very valued contributions in the war against the Axis powers. Many of the men deserted from the Irish Defence Force to join the allied forces on returning to Ireland after the war they were deprived of an Irish pension, previously accrued unemployment benefits and banned from jobs in the public sector for 7 years. I haven't heard of any support from Britain, for these brave men that signed up, when they could have easily stayed at home.

That is very true ! It is only in recent years that the label of deserter was removed from their records ! The only support they ever got from Britain was from the British Legion. Up until recently there was a British Legion hospital in Lepardstown in County Dublin !

Nine months after that speech many young men of between 18 and 23 years were risking their lives fighting.
Nowadays many young men of between 18 and 23 years are looking for safe spaces and things to be offended by.

Now quite a few are fighting and killing each other in the streets whilst far too many others are fighting and being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
