If an angler believed he/she had possibly just caught a fish that could challenge the british coarse fishing record for that species how would he/she proceed in registering this claim ?

With great difficulty I believe. An uncle of mine held the bream record for Ireland in the 1950's and even then he said he needed loads of witnesses/photo's etc to verify his claim...good luck buddy, I'm still after that elusive gudgeon record myself.
