Fishing pensioners shocked as mine explodes in pond
Two Dutch pensioners had a shock when the pond they were fishing in exploded.
A German mine blew up after lying unnoticed in the water since the Second World War.
Joost Westdorp and Sjuul Eerdmans were unharmed, but say the water rose 100 metres into the air and they were showered with dead fish.
The banks of the pond in Enschede were left littered with bits of carp, perch and pike.
Army bomb disposal experts investigated and found the device had been a German mine with four kilos of explosive.
De Telegraaf newspaper reports the experts think the metal shield over the explosives had rusted through, causing it to go off.
