We went into the local Mini dealers on Saturday to look at ordering a new car for Kathy, she wanted a Mini Clubman Cooper S we sat down with the sales staff and started putting a spec together then they gave us an expected delivery date.........May 2023...!! , last time we bought a new car we thought a 4 week wait for delivery was pushing it but 9 months ....you could have a baby in that time..!!.
So looked at other options and they found us a 2021 car with 6k on the clock in another branch in the colour she wanted with a higher spec than we had specified for £15k less than the price of a new one....we collect it from the local branch on Saturday.
What is happening in the world that we can not supply a car in less than 9 months, they are built in the UK so nowt to do with BREXIT

My mate works at Land Rover/Jaguar/Fords (whatever it's called now) in Liverpool. They've got 4000 cars in the compound with no steering wheels. He keeps getting laid off because they're constantly waiting for parts to be delivered. Last year it was a shortage of silicon chips.

when the modern convertible first came out in about 2004, we had a similar wait time, partly because there was such high demand ... and partly because our local dealership was owned by Damon Hill and thus very popular!
TBH - buying new is a mugs game these days ...

Work stopped buying new for our sales reps because of the ridiculous wait times and now get low mileage nearly new saving a ton of money and no wait

They may be built in Britain but many of the parts come from overseas…That is the delay

Issue with micro chips for the electonics in the vehicles now, most manufacturers are quoting 9-12 months.

this is why the second hand nearly new market is booming! there are issues all over the place and it will take years to sort and get back to normal, if there is a normal! wait till the global recession hits and it will get even worse!

Nissan have dropped a full shift because of part shortages and had just as much time off after furlough ended than when on furlough.
Ps. How much money is the government loosing on VAT on new cars. ?

Ordered our new motor back in January still not here yet.
I have been told it has been built by the dealer but no final delivery date, as the salesperson dealing with it is on holiday until Friday.

Funnily enough, just had a phone call from the Nissan dealer about our new Qashqai. We ordered it towards the end of June and were told it wouldn't be ready until November, now mid to late September.
They were having a 'Reserve your car for a £' promotion, talking to the sales bloke, they need to do it, so they can get a customers name, which is the only way they can order vehicles from the manufacturer. If the customer drops out they have the car, which they know they can sell.

I have been waiting a year for a Tranny.
I walked into my Ford dealer this time last year and asked for a new transit, sept the 9th it was delivered. They said they can get standard spec and can’t order add ons. To be fair it’s fully loaded with spec.
