Recently started fishing again after break of nearly 40 years ...gulp ... fishing couple club waters and focusing on tench ... recently been having problems with hooking into 10lb + carp ... what rod reel combo would you suggest to cope with this situation ... I fish very simply on running ledger...not a fan float fishing... have £200 budget ... thank you in advance ..

Many snags mate? If not you should be able do do it all with 6lb line and a nice through action soft feeder rod. If it's snaggy you might be better off with heavy feeder/lightish carp gear and heavier line.

I use a Grey's Prodigy TXL 1.25lb Twin Tip with 520 Preston Extremity Reel. If I want a baitrunner facility then I use a Shimano DL 4000. Lilies are just a pain sometimes though, Tench being bad enough for me, if the double figure Carp run into them then you just have to pray. There's other options rod and reel wise but those are within budget and work for me.

Running ledger, using bobbins or quiver tip for bite indication?, perhaps step up to 8lb line

A 1 1/4lb orv1.5lb Avon type rod would be good

11ft drennan specialist is a lovely rod and gives option of both indication methods

I like shinano 2500 dl fb small baitrunner, daiwa do a couple of similar sized reel too that iknow others prefer, but I have never seen one to try.
