I have only ever caught little Rudd and they're quite rare for me so a lovely fish to catch. Here's a daft question, is there a difference between Golden Rudd and 'Common' Rudd?

They’re a flipping nightmare in the places they’re in around here those pictured would be big uns! It’s basically akin to Stillwater bleak. Nice fish when they do grow on though.

The golden rudd are the ornamental variety although what’s done to get them looking that way is beyond my knowledge. Very different looking fish though. I’ve got naturals in one of my ponds and goldens in the other and they look like completely different species colour wise.

Breeding naturally in the wild 1 in a 1000 will be a golden rudd. Selectively breed them and the ratio improves. There's also yellow-fin rudd which really are rare.

Good stuff I never knew that 👍🏻

On a similar subject would you say the below is a rudd bream hybrid? Had never seen anything quite like it at the time or since but can’t think what else it could be.

I took a look back into my camera roll to see what the oldest fishing photos I have are.

This is the oldest, October 2011, the year I started fishing again after stopping in 1996. This mirror was 14lb and caught on my old Garbolino Spyder pole, with no 8 solid elastic, 4lb mainline to 3lb bottom and a size 18.

The next one is four years after, and saved because it was a pretty looking carp that I’d targetted specifically with a floating chum mixer. Great fight! 87A0D6B0-8525-4838-B275-B6E2325E665C.jpeg

Last one now, otherwise I’ll be here all night. The smallest barbel I’ve ever seen, 2015 from the River Dearne, the week after I caught my 10lb 4oz PB.

What are the oldest fishing photos you’ve got on your phones? Be good to see some.

Tbh pre joining the forum I took very little in the way of fish photos as didn’t really have anyone to share them with then. I don’t have any more than 6 years old full stop when I must have had an apple system clear out. These would be two of the oldest I have which I’ve posted in other threads before. Can tell the first one is old from my footwear, not got much use for those sort of things anymore 😂
