I was out tonight till gone late on a small urban river in the midlands, fishing red maggot on an 18 barbless under a balsa float in a weirpool. When i say weirpool i mean a gauging weir between concrete banks and with a concrete bottom about 2.5ft deep! Any way full of surprises as the most unlikely swims usually are, out popped.... 6 perch to 1lb, then a beatiful rudd of 6oz and from the whitest of white water a 2.5lb bream! followed by a 4lb common carp. I also lost a very fast moving 'animal' which i suspect was one of the more expected good chub. Girlfriend took a piccy of the carp in the near dark on phone but its hardly visible on phone, if its better on PC screen i'll upload it. i was surprised and startled by these odd catches and i'm wondering if it becuase i fished into darkness or just a lucky night.....
Get out ther and try your local overlooked brook
