Someone somewhere is making an awful lot of money off the backs of these migrants and it's a sure bet that some of this money will be used to pay-off local officials to turn a blind eye.

Interesting to hear on the ten o'clock news last night how those drowned people were described to suit the B.B.C.'s political narrative.
They weren't illegal immigrants.
They weren't refugees.

They were passengers.

I dont give a shoite where people come from, what colour face they have, what religion they may or not follow etc etc, all human beings have the right to aspire to a better life.

I completely understand we now live in Post Brexit Britain where to say such things is completely frowned upon but it remains the truth.

The irony of all this is that as members of the EU there were agreements in place that France would hold these people in camps to prevent them entering Britain, they now have no incentive to do so hence what was a trickle of migrants making it over has now increased quite dramatically.

"Taking back control of our borders," didnt they say?

Har de har, Brexit eh?

You put it in the hands of entirely the wrong people.
That's absolute bullshit mate, it wasn't going to happen overnight. It might take ten years or more, like a lot of other issues. We're out of the EU, FFS get over it.

Few people discussing this problem realise that the border between UK and France is on French soil. UK border controls are carried out by the French on French soil, not French waters, not UK waters and certainly not UK land - by law!

So the answer to the question of 'why should they help us' is: because it is their responsibility locked in an international treaty since 2003, before the opening of the channel tunnel, agreed upon French insistence. The UK cannot place any of its border control measures on French soil.

French success rate at stopping illegal immigration to UK was 50%

Britain bungs the French £60 million to double their efforts, on the proviso there is a significant reduction. The French achieve 65% - which means it is far cheaper for the UK to deal with the problem themselves. So Britain pays only part of the the money, as you would in a restaurant if you don't receive your full meal.

That's where France thought the stand-off would remain. However, EU have since stepped in stating 'how can the EU accuse Belarus of trying to destabilise the EU via illegal immigration, when France is seemingly doing the same to the UK?'

So, France is appealing to the EU, that their problem is an EU crisis and therefore deserves EU funding and support. Whilst we wait for the slow and heavy wheels of EU-action respond to the situation, desperate people are drowning.

It's easy to apportion all blame on France for not doing enough in the past - but they could be considered victims of circumstance.

What is less forgivable is they now recognise it's a 'humanitarian crisis' (as they bleated to the EU), yet they are still not prepared to enable their own temporary emergency measures.

There is a growing feeling of loathing and intolerance to any illegal immigration in he EU - their compassion has gone-out-the-window. I think the UK needs to give more priority to our own humanitarian responsibilities, as no other country seems willing or capable of doing so.

2 French police watched a boat set off yesterday and say they couldn’t stop it.
I sure a dingy with a hole in it is quite easy to do

The migrants have no need to cross the channel, they are already in a safe country, so why would they?
They must have some reason other than safety to come here which means they are not genuine refugees.
Why are the majority of them young men?
It appears the government are openly allowing this daily invasion, maybe they want it for some reason?

There are lots of things that simply don't make sense about this situation.

And yet asylum seekers receive more in France than they do in the U.K. ...

I’ve read and heard various stats bandied around, but according to official figures approx 50% of asylum applications are rejected at first application (but a further third are later accepted on appeal).
That’s a lot of people who you would readily deny their right to seek asylum in the country of their choice.

I think there is more to it than benefits 🤔.

People predominately come to the UK via mainland Europe because of language or family reasons.

You can quote numbers at people from things like

to show that, nationally, we don't have a problem, but the belief that people suffering extreme hardships to get here are scroungers is embedded in a large minority of the UK population.

Most of those who died are apparently Kurds from Iraq. Their unfeasible expectations of the UK probably stem from Jeffrey Archer's intervention to stop Saddam bombing them to oblivion after the 1st Gulf war, and London based Genel Energy becoming the Kurdish province's main oil producer, to the almost exclusive benefit of its shareholders and the ruling Barzani clan.
