Are you allowed to use a weed rake to clear your swim before fishing a match on a river or drain ? I was thinking in particular about some of the Riverfest / Silverfish matches.

Thanks in advance.

ive fished matches where you can and some where you cant, simply check with the match organizer to confirm, that is the only way of being sure

I’ve fished a few stretches on the feeder where about every third cast the feeder itself becomes an involuntary rake!

Seen a few weed cutters in use on the ends of landing net poles but I doubt a rake would be allowed but you need to confirm as said by asking the match organiser.

Not normally allowed to rake but some matches allow weed cutting on a limited scale. Problem with too much weed cutting is that it floats and can make a mess of other anglers pegs.
Personally I prefer to find a hole in the weed, rig up accordingly, and use a dirty great big Tench to cut the weed for me ?
