Morning Endura, no worries on the Carrick front, as for the buckets, the 'BOHAN' is busy hiding them now that the snow cover has gone.

it was mainly a roach festival last year, venues used were

day 1 church shore on garadice 23lb roach won

day 2 bunerkey(down the steps) 21lb again all roach, hybrids and perch

day 3 church shore again (by the depth marker) 18lb of roach n hybrids.

day 4 we tried corduff which we aint fished before, maybe a bit late fishing this place at end of sept and we struggled until late on when a few bream showed,15lb won.nice water this and would love to fish it during summer.

these are just some of the match weights from the area

Carlow C.A.C. Chairman has huge Roach haul

Athy and District angling club held a coarse angling match on Mails canal in
Athy on sunday 13th March 2011. Anglers attended from all over the country and
neighbouring counties. The match was fished on a running canal venue which
hasn't been competition fished this year so far and the turn out and the weather
on the day was good. Most anglers all experienced in match fishing circuits
chose to opt for the pole and whips and bomb in the initial barrage of
ground-bait however the Traper sponsored chairman of the Carlow Coarse Angling
Club Gerry mcstraw opted for a completely different approach to the match which
ultimately had devastating results thus producing one of the best bags of Roach
for years during a match (Roach not Hybrids). Gerry ended up weighing in a bag
of 62Lb 4oz of Roach ranging in size from 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz. Second was another
Carlow member MiroslavSvajlenin with 44 Lb of fish and in third place was Carlow
A.C.I. registered coach Ian Warburton with 37 Lb of fish three stunning bags of
fish.

Gerry arrived at the match minus his Traper seat box as the walk to the pegs
was long in some places instead he chose to sit on top of his ground-bait bucket
and fish with a 13ft float rod, a closed faced reel and a home made Peacock
quill. At the initial all in Gerry chose to take it easy and put in four golf
ball sized balls of the Traper Grand Prix black ground-bait mixed with some
dispersing leam, honey bread and the liquid roach additive. During the day Gerry
kept the Roach in his swim with a constant loose feed of caster and red maggots
and a small ball of ground-bait every forty five minutes.

On a separate note the Carlow club have been very busy indeed and are in
talks with the I.F.I. organising an event for the up and coming fisheries
awareness week in May in Carlow town. The club has the recognised A.C.I. fully
trained coaches are are also in talks to build twenty permanent disabled angling
stands in Carlow town. In a recent meeting the Carlow County Council accepted a
motion on the agenda and passed a By law motion for the complete catch and
release of all coarse fish in the county of carlow. If you have any queries as
regards the Carlow Coarse Angling Club or Leinster Coarse Fishing Federation of
Ireland

Good to hear Brian,
i must say though that Gerry must have had the sweat
hopping off him by the end of the match !

"Gerry ended up weighing in a bag
of 62Lb 4oz of Roach ranging in size from 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz."

Were they really that small ??
