I'm assuming that quite a few of these may be syndicate wins, so didn't actually make individual millionaires. But that's a lot of winners.

25 years x 2 draws a week (mostly) x 52 weeks = 2600 draws (not to mention euros)

So allowing for rollovers and shared prizes it seems about right.

I wonder how many of these have blown the lot, l remember one young guy wasted something like 10 million but l could be wrong on the amount.
Why did they increase the number of balls in the lotto, this made no sense to me in the slightest.
I maybe buy a ticket a couple of times a year.

I used to like it when it was £1 a go and 49 numbers on a Saturday night
Then came the Wednesday draw,
and then the greed set in £2 a go, followed by 10 more balls to worsen the odds, but on the premise there would be better lower payments - if you got the numbers that is.
Now there's that many games, cards, and suchlike the fun has gone from it

Often in the paper when someone does blow it all, 'lotto louts', but who can blame them? I don't play it but my dad's still in a syndicate from his old workplace and had an email over Christmas from an old colleague who told him a small sum of around £1000 had been deposited in his bank from the years winnings.

Aye he was a bit of a villain at the time, a right knob head. The same kid has supposedly turned his life around, and is a self made millionaire, to do with bit coin.

Spot on Dave.

And while the number of winners sounds like a lot, (5,530), the millionaires made make up around 0.008% of the population. So spread over 25 years that's down to an average of 221 or 0.00032% of the population a year. As in any gambling format, there are always more losers than winners; but they don't publicise those figures.

The extra 10 numbers was to create more roll overs so bigger prizes after so many weeks and that generates more money.
Not sure if it worked. 🤷‍♂
I have direct debit set up. But used to be 5 lines Wednesday and Saturday but for 5 family members. But only 2 alive now so binned it and just have 1 line on wed and sat. Original numbers from day 1.

I can't win a raffle in my local, with about 20 in it, so knocked the lottery on the head at those odds.

I used to do it with the same numbers every week but when they put it up to 59 numbers I swapped to the Thunderball,at our time of life £500,000 would be plenty to see us through the rest of it.

Aye that's him, the information he had reformed was bullshit I believe. He was on "This Morning" but I think it was a pee take.

Just like any gambling then - eventually no fun at all.
Used to play cards to socialise and have a few beers, and a few more, a few shots and a smoke.
Low Stakes - 10-20p, a tenner lasted all night, someone ended up £50-£80 quid up
Stakes increased to 50p - £1 over time - Walked away from it when a tenner lasted less than an hour.
Before long mates playing for £5-£10 stakes, social element gone, very few beers drunk.

Many years ago the missus and I were invited along for a card night, just for fun they said.

Four couples including us, bit of booze and food laid on, nice and leisurely few games of cards, then the stakes got higher, and higher, and it was clear that we were heading for a right shafting.
I could play reasonably well, my missus, on the other hand, has a face that you could read that easily she might as well just show everyone her hand :)

I managed to recoup most of her losses through my winnings and once I got back to comfortable, under a £tenner down overall ;) , I suggested we called it a night much to her dismay as she was really enjoying herself, half cut as she was <bless>
The other couples tried to encourage her to stay but nope it wasn't going to happen, taxi outside and waiting and we were off.

Didn’t he buy the field behind his house. That’s ok but also behind a full row of houses and all his neighbours houses.
Hell on.
